TIFF ’10: Midnight Madness programming announced

The line up of TIFF’s Midnight Madness program is one of the things I look forward to most at the festival.  This year’s selections, programmed by Colin Geddes, looks to be packed with action, thrills, and chills, and not an insignificant number of big names. The list of world and North American premieres includes filmmakers as John Carpenter, James Wan, James Gunn, Brad Anderson and Dante Lam. And the films feature performances by Demi Moore, Ellen Page, Josh Hartnett, Liv Tyler, Hayden Christensen, Kevin Bacon, Thandie Newton, John Leguizamo, Rainn Wilson, Woody Harrelson and Rose Byrne. TIFF ’10: Canada First! program announced

TIFF is celebrating the absolute freshest in Canadian filmmaking talent with its seventh edition of Canada First!, a program of six new films. World or North American premiere films from British Columbia, Quebec, and Ontario make up the program, which includes drama, social commentary, and an improvised thriller. Read more

Another week, another TIFF 2010 announcement! Today, they let us in on all the Canadian features in the programming this year. An impressive list of World, North American, or English Canada premieres that includes highly anticipated new works by Denis Villeneuve, Bruce McDonald, Xavier Dolan, Jacob Tierney, Louis Bélanger, William D. TIFF ’10: Wavelengths program celebrates its 10th year

TIFF 2010 celebrates the tenth anniversary of their curated presentation of the best in avant-garde film and video. Named after Canadian filmmaker Michael Snow’s seminal film, Wavelengths, this year’s program is their largest yet, featuring a total of 36 films and videos across six programs, and runs from September 10th through to the 13th. TIFF ’10: Documentary line up announced

Festival programming announcements for TIFF 2010 are coming out fast and furiously these days, and yesterday they released a huge list of documentaries that will be screened in September. With world or North American premiere films from the likes of Frederick Wiseman, Errol Morris, Thom Zimny, Kim Longinotto, Alex Gibney, and Werner Herzog, TIFF wasn’t kidding when they said it was to be a “veritable who’s who of documentary filmmaking.” Exciting! TIFF ’10 Press Conference: The Full Rundown

This morning at the Hyatt Regency throngs of media from around the city, country, and around the world gathered to listen to Piers Handling, Director and CEO of TIFF, and Cameron Bailey, Co-Director of the festival, unveil the sought-after list of gala and special presentations for this year’s festival taking place from September 9-19.In their presentation, Handling and Bailey focused on the history of the festival, in its 35th year this year. TIFF Announces Opening Night Film – Score: A Hockey Musical

You know TIFF is coming soon when the inaugural press conference takes place. Well that was just this morning in the Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame, and TIFF’s Director and Co-Director, Piers Handling and Cameron Bailey, announced that the opening night film of this 35th year of the festival will be Score: A Hockey Musical. It seems like a very appropriate choice for 2010 after the exciting hockey playoff season that just ended in May. Read more
