TIFF ’10: Lots of talented, attractive people to attend

So, I know we’re supposed to appreciate the fine craft of filmmaking during TIFF, but let’s get real for a minute. Watching movies is my preferred activity in life but for most of us, the film fest is an excuse to stargaze in a way that we all claim is below us. Well, it’s certainly not below me, so it is with great pleasure that I confirm the attendance of pretty much every Hollywood star you can think of and more at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Unless you’re really into long, uninterrupted lists, I’ll just give you the Coles Notes version of the expected guests. Among the directors premiering their films this year is John Cameron Mitchell, creator and star of the cult-like Hedwig and the Angry Inch and the shockingly explicit Shortbus. This year he is presenting an adaptation of the 2007 stage play Rabbit Hole, featuring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart, who will both be attending the festival.

Although he is set to premiere his new film at the Venice Film Festival in early September, Darren Aronofsky will be present to screen his psychological thriller about two New York City ballerinas, Black Swan. Natalie Portman, who stars in the film along with Mila Kunis, will also make an appearance at TIFF this year.

Finally, Ben Affleck will be at the festival screening his second feature film, The Town. The stars of this cops-and-robbers flick – Blake Lively, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, and Rebecca Hall – are all expected to attend.

Those are some of my top picks, but the list of celebs that will unleash themselves on our streets in a couple of weeks seems endless. Other actors and actresses that have confirmed their attendance include Bill Murrray, Zach Galifianakis, Marion Cotillard, Steve Coogan, James Franco, Javier Bardem, Michael Sheen, and Carey Mulligan. I promise it is a complete coincidence that most of the people on my list are men.
